You’d think that we would have learned to make peace with something that 90% of us have, and yet the word “cellulite” is still said in a hushed tone that often helps mask disgust, disappointment or embarrassment at the very thought of it being on any part of our body. Cellulite is a complex issue (many factors play a role in the apparition of cellulite, such as hormones, lifestyle, diet choice and genetic predisposition); and although there are several natural remedies you can use to reduce the amount you have, you must also be aware that, no matter how hard you fight it, it is very difficult to eliminate for good. While applying topical remedies to your body is a very good starting point and can drastically change the appearance of your skin, it is also imperative that you make necessary lifestyle changes such as increasing the amount of exercise you do, cutting down on caffeine and nicotine, as well as having a healthier diet. Here are five suggestions to get you started.

#1. Coffee Scrub

When used topically (as in, on your skin) coffee can help metabolize fat and dilate blood vessels, thus helping to tighten the outer tissue of the skin. The most powerful effect of coffee scrubs is that it aids the body to release toxins, which is beneficial in any circumstance. Making this is easy; take your favorite brand of ground coffee and mix it in with either coconut or olive oil till you form a paste. Next, rub it vigorously all over your thighs for a few minutes then rinse off in the shower. Use your scrub at least three times a week for optimal results.

#2. Cucumbers

Cucumbers are known for their hydrating properties and also have high vitamin content. Using cucumbers is very easy, simply apply slices directly to your skin and leave them there for at least 20 minutes to allow the skin to tighten and repeat as often as five times a week.

#3 Plain Old Water

It’s as simple as that. Increasing your intake of water may be one of the simplest ways to diminish cellulite. Water is a natural cleanser, so if you tend to have a diet that is includes large amounts of caffeine, is high in fat or cholesterol, then it is even more important for you to drink at least 2 lts of water a day so that you can aid your body in eliminating toxins and breaking down fatty deposits.

#4 Gelatins

This might be tricky to pull off correctly because many JELL-O’s or other forms of flavored gelatin are packed with sugar and not at all beneficial to your health. Unflavored gelatin is something that will aid you indirectly; although you have to consume it orally, it will help you increase your collagen production and make for smoother skin. When picking up a pack of unflavored gelatin powder at the local supermarket, make sure to read the label carefully so that you are certain you have the correct product.

#5. Dry Brushing

Before hopping into the shower, take a brush that has natural (not synthetic or plastic) bristles and make firm, circular motions over your legs (particularly your thighs or buttocks) for a few minutes on each side. This routine should feel pleasurable, not torturous, so make sure to not go too hard; the main goal is to open up your pores and stimulate blood flow throughout the body.
